Coby

This is Coby, our furry friend. He is a dog from end to end. Coby is friendly, gentle and kind. He likes to make friends all the time.

Hunter and Hannah are at the pet store. They are getting a new friend and so much more!

Coby waits patiently on the living room floor. He stares carefully at the big front door.

Hunter and Hannah walk in the house. Coby hears a squeak…. is it a mouse? He wonders what is in the box. Is it a ferret, a gerbil or fox?

Hunter opens the box and out jumps a furry creature. Two tiny ears and a stubby tail are some of its’ features. It’s not a ferret, a gerbil or a cat. Why it’s a hamster, what do you think of that?

They name the hamster Harry. He’s furry, fluffy and friendly…. and not the least bit scary.

They play with Harry all afternoon and feed him lots of food. Harry likes to eat pellets and green veggies too! They give him plenty of water and watch him stuff his face. Harry likes to climb and run all over the place.

Harry is happy in his new home. It has a wheel, bedding and foam. Hunter, Hannah and Coby leave to eat a snack. Little Hunter says, “Harry, we will be right back.”

They leave the room in a hurry and forget to close the cage door. Harry climbs out and jumps to the floor. He crawls under a broom and quickly scurries out the room.

Hunter, Hannah and Coby return after their snack. Hannah yells very loud, “Harry, we are back!” Coby searches all around. Harry the hamster cannot be found! Where can Harry be? Is he in the closet, under the bed or hiding behind me?

Coby’s Safety Tips

Follow these ABC’s on the best way to meet a dog.

1- Always Ask First. Ask the owner, “May I pet your dog?” If the owner says yes, then wait…..
2- Before petting let the dog come to you and……. give the dog time to smell you. Always stand on the side of the dog and do not face them.
3- Carefully and slowly pet the dog on the back of the neck or back area.
4- Do not try to pet their face. Do not try to pet if the dog seems tense, scared or angry.
